THE TRAWLING INDUSTRY
The Clxaiirman said a certain enterprising townsman had invested £700 in a steam trawler with the object of promoting the local fishing industry. He intended to fish outsTde the Heads, bitt it appeared the Collector of Customs had raised the obstacle thait a- certificated deep-sea engineer -was necessary. The owner of the trawler desired to run her. with a. river-limit engineer. This, h& (Mr. Harper) considered to be unreasonable." -
Mi*. T. B".'Williams explained-themat-ter at great length, and expressed the opinion tliatb the requirements of the Customs regulations in this matter were unreasonable. On his (Mr. Williams's) motion, ©ec'onded by Mr. D. McFarlane, a. committee, consisting of the Mayor, Messrs. Cummins, SpurdLo, and the mover, were appointed to inquire into the matter, with power to act.
