ARBITRATION COURT
THE LINOTYPE DISPUTE
WELLINGTON, November 16. The Arbitration Court wasoccupietl today with the inotype dispute. The chief feature of the demands of the men is an increase from £3 6s to £3 15s per week on evening papers, and from ti'S 12s to £4 os on morning papers. The employers claim an increase of the efii- ' ciency rate from 6500 ens' per hour to 7500. Later. In the Arbitration Court no evidence was called by the employers in the linotype dispute. Mr Fenwick, in addressing the Court, said the claim of the union to say if there should be piece work or time work in offices was open to many objections. It would be very serious interference with employers' interests. He thought restrictions as to the employment only of lads who had been at case should be removed.
The hearing of the dispute so far as Wellington is concerned is now concluded, but evidence has to be taken at Palmerston, Wanganui, and Napier.
