Finance.—The Bank book was laid on the table and showed a credit balance of £2992 14s. The secretary explained that an interest remittance amounting, to £1830 would have to be sent to London next month. Accounts to the amount of £135 15s. Id. were passed for payment. Fumigation Box. —It was reported that a site, next to the small shed on the wharf had been selected for a fumigation box. _ Dredge.—The committee appointed at the previous meeting to inspect and report on the machinery of the old dredge not having prepared a report, the matter was referred back to the committee, to whom Mr. Murray's name was added. The opinion was generally expressed that the materials of the dredge were fit only for scrap iron. Urinal. —The Town Clerk wrote informing the Board that the Borough Council could not see its way to contribute to the proposed new urinal near -the wharf. —A committee consisting of the Chairman and Messrs. Thain. Elliott, and Miilward was appointed to report at next meeting on the question of erecting a urinal. Grass Planting.—-The secretary reported that Mr. L. Wright had carried out. his covenant in regard to grass planting on South Spit, and had planted the area required. Leases.—Messrs. Baddeley and Forlong wrote pointing out that they were incurring considerable expense in fencing land recently leased by them from the Board, and asking, in view of the short lease and high rent, whether it would give the firm permission to remove the fences at .the expiry of the leases or allow compensation therefor. —It was resolved to allow the firm to remove at the expiry of their lease any cross or divisional fences erected by them. Resignation.—C. D. Emerick wrote, informing the Board that he had resigned his position at the Pilot Station, but stating that he would return to his position if the Board increased his sals>rv from £75 to £100.—A letter from the pilot was enclosed, stating that Kmerick was a most willing worker and a good all-round man.—A committee, consisting of Messrs. Murray, Williams, Elliott, and Neilson, was appointed to inciuire into the matter of the pilot's staff and their'duties and report to the Board. Pilot's Report.—The pilot's report for the month was read and received. The report showed that the channel over the bar continued as during the previous month, bearing hv compass from the flagstaff S.W.. with a depth of 11 i o "lc*'es at '"'gh water spring tides, ;yul P. feet 6 inches ?t high water neaps. Jhe lower reach <md entrance to the river were fairly srood. The upper flats were as usual. During the month 122 vessels crossed the bar, 58 of which crowed in the night.
