NEW YORK, September 4.
At the outset the Shamrock had the windward berth, and for a short time was footing it fast, but the Reliance, out-pointing her, passed her.
The wind soon blowing nine knots, the Reliance strengthened her position, her advantage to the outer work being 6min. 9sec, deducting her allowance. She soon led by two miles, and won by three.
A dense fog covered the course towards the close of the race, preventing the Shamrock finishing.
