"HANDS UP."
AUCKLAND, July 9. An attempted Mghiway robbery in conventional style is reported from Ayondale, near Auckland. George Downing, a blacksmith, riding home from Hobsonville at nighlt, 'was stopped by a man who suddenly appeared from behind ati-tree and shouted "Hands up 1!" Downing's pony shied, and galloped back to Hobsonville. Downing-saw another man lurking in the vicinity. The spot was a lonely one. It was known locally that Downing; usually oaiiried money home from Ms bbanoh business aJa Hobsonville.
