BOROUGH COUNCIL.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) MARTON/ Wednesday. A special meeting of the Borough Goun-, cil was held to-day. Present.—Dr. Skennan. (chairman), Crs. Beckett, Tennent, Richardson, Gibbons/ and Sutcliffe. The meeting was called to discuss the estimates for the year drawn out by the Finance Committee. The receipts were stated to^ be £3793, >! and disbursements £2971 18s, debit balance £821 Us 7d. On the motion of Mr Beckett, seconded by Mr Gibbous, it was resolved that the estimates as read be adopted. v It was resolved that Crs. Gibbons and, Read be aippointed to revise the specifications for the carting contract. The Gas Committee recommended—-That the gas manager' be authorised t^> give Mr Marsh notice and engage someone else; that an exhibition of gas cooking stoves be given in Mr Humpjlirey's shop, Broadway, as* soon as possible; that .Mr Whincop's j . salary be increased > £3 per week.—lt -.it was resolved that Mr Whincop engage pay half cost of main and service, and abandon all claim to property in pipes on road^ that liis application be acceded to; it was resolved that Mr Whinco engage someone to assist him at works from 2 pirn, to 2 a.m., duties to include;lamp-lighting, at a salary of 255; it was resolved that a iprice be obtained for the erection of the extra sheds a* the gas works, the matter being left in Or. Gibbons' hands to interview builders. < A letter was received from the Town Clerk, askirig to be allowed assistance in the library, ias in its present state he is . unable to carry his work on with so many interruptions.—Resolved that the matter be left in the hands of the Finance Committee,' to report by 'next meeting. A letter from Mr A. Hawke was read, asking that something be done, in the way of making a pathway in front of his residence, Wellington Road.—To be dealt with j.t next meeting. ' ' It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Gibbons, seconded by Mr Reade, that the treasurer be authorised to sign debentures on the various loans. Two tenders %vere received . for the borough carting (repairs only), and it was resolved that tenders be, held over. Or. Richardson asked how it was that [provision had not been made to include in the estimates the cost of forming a footpath in Oxford Street.—Matter deferred gUtit nextmeeting. ■/ '
