POLLARD'S OPERA COMPANY

The plan .of seats.of "The Toreador," ta ! be produced by the PolJard Opera Company I at the Opera House on next Monday even- ! ing, is now open for inspection at. H. I. Junes and Son>, and to avoid disappointment intending patrons should make early application for seats, as the season is limited to one night only, in, consequence of the company being due in Dunedin at Christmas. With the appearance of every fi<e*h musical comedy .injfoo long seriesl produced by Mr. Tom Pollard, the question is not "What it will be like?" but "How will it go?" Thanks to a company so. ■strongly organised, the query i.s seldom answered unsatisfactorily. The comparative failures have been few, the successes many, and "The Toreador,"' judging bythe reception accorded it in Auckland, will certainly swell the latter list. The music, if it comprises no dreamily pretty balads and duets, i« rich in songs, stirring anr diythmical, which give openings for some vocal display. Several of these fall to the lot of Mr. D. O'Connor and Miss Connie Buttel. In lighter vein there is a goodly series of eccentric ditties, divided pretty evenly among Miss Gertie Campion, Mr. H. Quealy, Mr. Percival Ayhner -(the new tenor), and Misses Alice Edgar and Alice Pollard. Of humour there is abundance, chiefly supplied by the New Zealand favourite, Mr. W. S;. Percy. The costumes are entirely new, also the scenery. "The Toreador" promises to repeat his Auckland triumph at Wanganui on Monday evening.
