FIRES.
A destructive fire occurred at Brightwater last night, which burned down Dodg--'shun's store and Organ's boot shop. It apparently originated through the matches in the .store being gnawed by rats. Dodgshun was insured —building for £350 in the Sun Office, and stock £3000 in the Royal. He estimates his loss at £1000 over the insurance on the stock and £100 over the insurance on the building. He carried » heavy new. stock for the summer season. Organ lost his stock of boots and tools, etc. There was no insurance on the stock. Rowbotham's house was scorched. No> other damage was done, the wind blowing clear of the other buildings, which had a narrow escape. Organ's puivato house was scorched, the windows broken., and fences and fruit trees destroyed. Organ's insurance was £350 on the building in the-Sun Office.
