Economic Building Society.
SPECIAL MEETING
An extraordinary general meeting of the shareholders of the above Society was held in the Society's rooms, Duigan's Buildings, Ridgway Street^ last evening, to consider several important proposed alterations iitha Society's rules. Mr R. M- Gatenby, chairman of directors. 7>resided, and there was a very large attendance of members. Mr Gatenby Kind that the proposed alterations had been brought forward by the directors after very mature deliberation. The directors were unanimous in recommending the amendments to the members. They had had an intimate knowledge of the Society's affairs for the ipast six yeara, and nothing but a wholehearted regard for the Society's welfare had prompted the present proposals. After considerable, discussion, the iproposed alterations were carried by large majorities. The principal alterations are to secure to every member who draws an appropriation by ballot the full benefit of the same without the necessity of beii:a present at the meeting, and to cancel the rules permitting members to withdraw from the Society except under special circumstances, when the consent of the Board of Directors will first have to be obtained.
