When the field settled down Canteen showed out in front, and entering the course proper he Avas running just dear of the Porirua pair, after whom came Welback and Halberdier, with, Sirius bringing up the rear. Passing the sitond Welbeck and Punamu wera shewing the way, followed hv Canteen, Halberdier, Siege Gun, Tortulla, and Porirua in the order named, Nonette whipping in. Running past Cutts's Porirua ranged alongside Siege' Gun, and Lrlenaladale passed Tortulla, Fakir also* improving hia position, and Nanette still occupying the rearmost place. There was no change when the mile post was reached, but a furlong further on Tortulla dropped back and Nonette began to close up, the field at this time being well to gether. Six furlongs from home Welbeck was in front. Canteen, Punamu, Halberdier, Glenakidale, Siege Gun, and Porirua following in the order named. Entering the sti*aigh,t Welbeok was showing just clear of Canteen, Glenaladale, Halberdier, and Porirua being their closest attendants, the rest of the field being close together, and Nonette and Tortulla last. Once in line for home Glena'adale was done with, and Canteen and Welbeck looked like fighting out a good finish. A furlong from home Halberdier shot up, and settling the other pair in a few strides, won easily by three lengths, Welbeck beating Canteen by two lengths. Porirua. was fourth, the order of the others being Glenaladalo, Sieg« Gun, Tortulla, Fakir, Nonette, Sirius, and Punamu. Time, 3 mins. 4-5 sees. Dividend^ Halberdier £5 3s. 6d-, Wdbeck £2 19s.
