The monthly meeting was htldi on Saturday. Prosent—Crs. Marshall chairman), Beckett, Holden, Lethbridge, Aldworth, McGregor, and Dr. Skeiman. Conespondence was read froam: — TplegTiijph Department, advising that payment of- £47 -10s^ on .Moawhango-Man-gaweka, telephone subsidy will be refunded and returning bond cancelled. Treasury, advising payment of £1000 of the Bulls, bridge loan, £200 Pukemapou road lpan r and1 £200 Taihape loan. Treasury, stating that the recent application for loans (£,£150), with, £5,160 previously applied for, make £13,310, and that tho Treasury can only agree to lend £12.000 (two successive years? expenditure) in one year, Resolved, that, application lor loans be withdrawn a*l f ollo%vb> : £1000 on Wa.irako-Pub.irua,, £300 on Ra-kau-Toru road, and £lOu taken off the Makohine village settlement road. Chief Siurveyor, re Ohaumoko roads, and stating that fresh plans will be sent to Mr. McKay for .signature. Chief Surveyor, statir-g that he required two additional tratc'ngs for the Kuatangata road. Minister of Lands [addressed to Mr. Haselden, M.H.R.), advising £343 .granted for the Pphonuiatane Block road has been issued to Council for expenditure. Resolved, that Mr. Mair interview stttlers to ask them to allow their "thirds" to be spent in order to get £ for £ .subsidy. Chief Engineer for Roads, advising alteration of road in Makotuku Survey District, which 'has been closed through Blocks VII. and VIII, Reply to be sent that road is nob in Rangitikei. Read1 Surveyor, Wanganui, advising that the formation of 95 chains on Taheke road will cost £200, and- that £100 i(£ for £) has been placed on the- estimates, for the road. Resolved, on the motion of the chairman., seconded by Cr. Holden, that e«ttlers on Taheke road be asked to make 14 fresh application for expenditure of 1 "thirds" en the road. Road Surveyor, Wanganui, asking to be informed what works the Council intends carrying out in the northern part of tho county. Hie reason for requesting this informafon was in order to avoid commencing any work that the Council may be making* arrarj.erernents .lor, and so that the Department may hand over any engineering da,ta- or pf.ans of the work, which would be of use to the Council. It would ako prevent the Council doing any work for which possibly they had arranged. Resolved, that the "Council- will be glad to fall in with Mr. Reaney s suggestion, and that he be asked to send a list of works contemplated by. the Government. Commissioner of Crown Lands, re expenditure of "thirds" with Government grant on Taheke road, and seeing no reason for altering his opinion as to the intention in giving a subsidy of £ for £. Commissioner Crown Lands, advising that reserve 22. Block VIII, Tiriraukawa, has been vested! in the "Council.

Department of Agriculture, approving of renewal of .slaughtering licenses to G. Morris, A. Nesbifr, G. Green and Co., ANeedham. H. Y. Letihbridge, stating that last year he paid the Council (under protest) £151 for rates en Ruatangata block No. 182, since then the block has been readjusted by the Valuer-GeneraS, and he found he had paid £47 14s. rates for land that was not in h;s possession. He had received £25 14s. refund on native land tax, and asked the Council to* refund paid in excess. The Valuation Department wrote stating Mr. Lethbridge was over ' assessed. Resolved, on the motion of Cr. Beckett, seconded by Cr. McGregor, that the matter be left* in the hands of the chairman to readjust and a refund be. made to Mr. Lethbridge. Robert Wilson, stating that the proposed road through Heaton Park to the beach was1 under consideration by the trustees. G. Wheeler, asking for a copy of the pet'tion presented to the Council re Onepuhi bridge. W. Hamilton and others, asking that metal be placed on the road leading u\ the proptriy of the late W. James. Referred io Mr. Thorns to report on. F. H. Heerdegan, asking when money would be available for Rakau-Toru V.S. rends, and if t*ey could be metalled during the summer, as the settlers had experienced bad1 roads and wanted them done before next winter. It was resolved .that settlers be informed the Council lias been advised by the Treasury that owing to the full amount of the loan nfoney having been applied for this year and next yeav tlie loan for the roads will not be available until 1904. Information to be supp'ad In reply to a letter from the New Zenland Loan and Mercantile Company re the Vinegar Hill bridge contract,, it w-is resolved, on the motion of Cr. The metaling- contracts would iSeo be taken considerably higher than usual ruling prices, as horse feed is much dearer not\v than for some years past. The estimates amounted to £367 10s., and the total amount required on the riding roads amounted to £287 10s. Dealing with the report, it was resolved that a reply be sent to Mr. Mason that there would be no advantage to have the bush fa,llen on West road. That tenders be called for delivery of metal en roads in the urpper ridings., as recommended by the inspector (Mr. Mail).

It -was resolved, on the mot: on of Cr. Beckett-, seconded by Cr. McGregor, that Mr Hursthouse be informed that the Couno'l bas agreed to contribute £500 the Mangarere road.

That the general applications for expenditure of "thirds" and! "fourths" be sent to the Land Board, with approval of tho iGcxunoil.

That the letter in reference to Wilson road, Hunterville, be referred to Cr. Aidworth and Mr. Mair.

Mr. Thorn's respoit was read and dealt with. It wa<=t resolved that Mr." Thorns make arraEgemente with the Rata Dairy Company to get. the road to Croft on Creamery metalled at the Council's cost, provided it can bs used* to cart metal from the pit near the Creamery. It was further resolved that the bridge over the Tutaenui river at Bulls, near Mr. Paulin's, be cross-decked, the met?l removed, and other necessary repairs be carried out. The weight to be taken over the bridge mutt neb exceed 5 tone.

Spec'ail orders making special rates for the purpose of providing interest ard other charges were passed, as follows: — Loan of £3,300, Torere-Bukeokalra' roads ; £1,200, Ofcaihapa Improved Farm Settlement roads ; £3,0Q0, Makcihine-Mangaweka mad; £600, Pukenana road,; £60, construction of Raumaewae load,"Mangawekn.

The following- tenders were accepted: — No. 73, widening aboub o0 chains, Mataiaporism roid, En.'it Te Kapir, Canton and Rowling, £105 14s. 6d. No. 74, forming a*id. gr.ivelli-ng 15£ chains, Ramaewae road, Mangaweka,, Mr Bowie, £56 10s. No. '75, delivery of BuO yards gravel) on Murumotu mad, near Poukicre, F. L. Behrudt, 7s. Hid. per yard (£280). No. 76, supplying fencing and posts and vails, Taihape pound, A. Nathan., £21.
