Rumour.* a-ie current that Mr. Seddon will be opposed in this constituency. The loud paper says that, white it is given oMt t:iali Mir. Seddon will have a walk over, there are reports that it is possible, if not probable, he will have opposition. The names of one vv two gentlemen have been mentioned, but so far as the paper can gather there i* little foundation.1. Westport's returning officer has not yet been appointed for the West land' electorate. DUNEDIN, October 3. Dr. Gordon Mac Donald has withdrawn his candidature for tlhe city at the general ejections. OAMARU, Oootber 4. Mr. A. L. Herdman, * candidate for the Mount Ida seat, addressed the electors at Kurow for a few minutes at the close of an entertainment last night. He designated himself an independent, and pronounced himself as emphatically in opposition. ■ It-is .stated that Mr. Cutten, who was announced as a candidate in the Ministerial interests, has acted- on the suggestion of hisi Naseby committee, and retired from the content to: avoid "splitting the votes against John Ewing, tine selected Ministerial candidate.
