Union Boat Club.

The annual meeting of the above club was held on Saturday evening. In the unavoidable absence oi the president (Mr. F. M. Spurdle), Mr. C. A. Barton was voted to the chair. There was also) present a large number of member* and intending members.

The minutes of the last annual meeting were read arid confirmed. Ihe annual report and balance-sheet were unanimously adopted. The following*is the annual report: — Mr. President and Gentlemen, —In presenting this, the annual report for the season 1901-1902, your committee have tot congratulate members upon the position the club hold's1, and the success attained during the (past season. Membership.-—The membership list shows an increase of numbers over that of the previous, season, and it is anticipated that the rcil for the comirg season will be a. record one.

FinanceI. —A perusal of the balance-sheet will show that the dub is in a good financial position. Most of the outstanding subscriptions from previousi seasons' have been collected, and the total amount of subsoriptionis hoav unpaid amounts to about £10. Your committee would impress upon members the necessity for paying their subscriptions early in the season, as that is the period at which expenses are heaviest-.

Regattas.—The club was represented at the Wellington and Wanganui regattas. At Wellington our representatives won. the Senior Clinker Four*1, and came second in the Junior Fours, the crew consisting of Messrs.' W. Sharps, J. Hamilton, R. Green and W. Jones. The maidlen crew, consisting of Messrs. R. McGregor, F. Lampitt, M. Ryan, and W. White, 'secured second place in the Maiden Fours. At the Wanganui regatta the senior crew won the Senior Clinker Fours, and. came second in the Senior Rigger. Mr. W.Webb secured! first place in the Junior, Sculls, and Messrs. 0. Robb and J/Williams second and third in the Maiden Pair Oar and Double Sculls.! wsfpectively. The total prize money amounted to £40. We hope that our representatives will meet with as great, or even greater, success, during the coming season. Club Races. —Oowing to the number of crews training! for regattas, club racing was practically abandoned at Christmas, but we trust that the incoming committee will endeavour to provide for more club racing dluring the ensuing season. The following are the results of the races held1: Cub Fours, Messrs. McGregor, Lampitit, Whitcmnbe, and McDonald. Mr. Barton's Pairs, Messrs. Hamilton and White. Messrs. Williams Bros.' Pairs, Messrs. Sharpe and White.

Plant. —All the plant was renovated at the beginning of the season. A clinker four oar, two single scullers, several sns of oars, and tub sculls were added to the plant during the season, and were ma Iv appreciated. Two new four-oared chrkers for trophy racing purposes are now- on order, and should1 tarrive next- month. These will supply a long-felt want. \ nose and best four is also needed. With hie jirHition of these tliree boats the rant- v/ill Ije in a th'orougliSy satisfactory sta;o Tlie pleasure tubs have recently beeu overhauled and re-painted1, and this will doubtless specially commend itself to our doulactive membei-s.

iComplinDentory.—One and a.'l w>ll I.c pleased to welcome home from South Africa, Messus. D. Gunn, P. /Coss, an-1 'J. Whitcombe, all of whom are energetic members. We regret losng tbe services of Mr. CLem. Clark owing to his having been transferred to Hawera. We feel quite sure "Clem." will miss rowing as much as we mii-s him. Mr. E. Gordon, a. member of the committee, at present on a visit to the Old Country, is) expected to be back in time to take pa.it in the coming season's contests.

The best thanks of members are due to Mr. O. Barton and Messrs. Williams Bros, for donations,*of trophies; and also to Messrs. W. Sharpe and C. Robb for their attention to the plant. In conclusion, rour committee would urge upon members'the .advisability of inducing their friends to join;. If every member would bring 'forward one new member the result of the ensuing season would be still more satisfactory than that of its predecessors. For the committee, W. H. SWANGER, Hon. Secretary. 30th September, 1902. The following new members were tlected: Messrs. J. Mair, A. T. McKenzie, S. G. Kerby, W. G. Piper, R. O. Collier, J. Gilbertson, 0. H. Dinew, El C. Gage, A. J.
