MASTERTON, October 1. The Borough Council's! proposed loan of £5000 for reconstruction of tlie gas works and extension of tlhe mams came before the ratepayers to-day, arid was rejected by 144 to 217. Only a small proportion of the ratepayers voted. Schwie;gershauseni. the Gextnan .cyclist, lectures here to-morrow.
