HOKETIKA, Ocotber 2. The Supreme Court wae occupied most of the morning) with. the civil case McLean v. Devereaux, husband and wife, to determine the liability of the latter in respect to a claim of £285 for goods supplied. The casle was partly fieard and adjourned. The criminal charge against Gregory for attempted assault is now proioeeding. . The prisoner is giving evidence on his own behalf.
In the Supreme Court to-day the case of Rex v. William Gregory, of attempted rape, indecent assault and! theft on and from a girl of 13, committed) at Mvavchison in March, was concluded to-day. The jury, afiter an absence of 20 minutes, found accused no* guilty. This was the only criminal casle far the whole of the West Coast for six months.
In civil jurisdictioni an action McLean v. Devereau, to determine the question of a wife's liability for a husband's debts under certain conditions, was commenced.
NEW PLYMOUTH, October 2.
At the Supreme Court two young men (Keith and Harvey) were charged with robbery with violence from a man named Anthony at Hawera in May last. The case lasted all day. The jury returned a verdict of not guilty, and the accused were discharged.
