Received October 2, 0.52 a.m. MELBOURNE, October 1. Sir George Turner stated that in, view of the House negativing the loan policy, publio works would have to be constructed out of revenue. He would consequently introduce additional Estimates. Received October 2. 0.57 a.m. BRISBANE. October 1. In the debate on the second reading of the Income Tax Bill in the Council, Mr Barlow strongly opposed, on the ground that the tame was inopportune and that it could not produce sufficient to relieve the Treasury.

The. debate was adjourned till Tuesday. Great) interest was taken in the -debate. It is rumoured that the Council;is likely to reject the Bill.
/MELBOURNE, October 1
Great interest was taken in the. elections., and there was heavy voting. Latent-returns show the position of parties to be —Government bl, Labour 14, Opposition 14. Of ten seats still in doubt the Government will probably win eight.
MrKirton was the only Minister opposed and he was re-elected. Those_ defeated include ex-Minisit-er Gurr, Burton, and Outtrim. ,
The Labour party will be increased by three or four.
