TIMARU, August 14,

The Education Board to-day discussed the subjects to be dealt with by the Education Conference a* Wellington with a view tb instructing their delegate. It was decided to recommend the Conference to approve of the Government granting the same subsidies for secondary education to ; high schools as are given to> district high scfhools; that 2s. 6d. increase under the Teachers' .Salaries Aot, 1902, be placed in the hands of the Board pro rata to meet the following expenses: Increase when judged expedient to teachers of smatter schools, the payment of sewing mistresses where necessary, the conveyance of pupils living at long distances from schools, to provide for relieving teachers, and any other object connected with the better : staffing of schools. It alsoi suggested the , increasing of the incidental grant from 11s. ! 3d. to 12s. or 12s>. 3d. With these addi- i tions to the revenue the Board could cany on comfortably against periodic change of inspectors. NELSON, August 15. The Nelson College Old Boys' Association held a social gathering last night. The chairman suggested that) Old Boys ■ailil over the colony be enrolled as members, and when the Association had a credit balance they should endow the Nelson College with a scholarship.
