FOOTBALL.

A meeting of the Management Committee was held last evening, there" being present—Messrs. Spriggens (chair), Firth, A. Gray, G. H. Pownall, M. Hogan, jun., S. Morton, A. McLean, W. HaK, A. WMountfort (secretary), and Rev. J. M. Marshall.

The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed1. Recreation Ground.-JiHie sub-committee appointed to deal with the Recreation Ground fence reported that they had accepted a tender for the erection of a fence (labour only) at a very reasonable figure, and that work would be commenced' on Ist June. The trees were already being removed. Resolved —"That the action of the Fence Committee be endorsed."

Correspondence. —The secretary read a letter from Mr. Walworth, referee in the recent Aramoho-Waitotara match, complaining of misconduct. The letter had been referred to the Union by the local Referee's Association. The secretary reported that he had written to Mr. Walworth for fuller particulars, and asking whether his letter referred to spectators or players, but so far he had received no reply. Resolved —"That the letter be referred back to the Referees' Association for a recommendation."

Johnston's Ca.se. —J. Johnston, an exmember of the Pirate Football Club wrote asking for the removal of the remainder of his term of disqualification. Resolved —"That the letter be received, and no action taken."

Cup Matches.—The question of teams being coached during cup matches was brought upi, the general opinion being tihat no coaching should b« allowed. It was decided a letter be written to the Referees' Association drawing the attention of referees to this practice. The Christii Church Club wrote asking for permission to play their match against Waverley Football Club at Waverley on Tuesday, 3rd June, instead of next Saturday. Granted, subject to the consent of the Waverley Football Club.

Transfers.—* The following transfers were granted, subject to clearances being sent in : —J. Kilpatrick, from Pirate Club to Waitotara Club ; W. Da-vis, from Aramoho Club to Kaierau Club; and J. Soler, from Pirate Club, to Rover Club, but not f iiom junior to third! class. New Members.—The following club lists .sent in since the 12th May were passed: — Pirate, Kaierau, Waiitotaira., Wanganui, Christ Church, Mitchell, and Rovers.

Club Colours.-—'A discussion took place with regard to players noti playing in their! proper club colours. The secretary stated that he had' written to the -secretary of the Referees' Association asking him to instruct referees to strictly enforce the rale that no player be allowed to play except in his dkib colours. Resolved—"That all clubs be warned that members of clubs playing any match in other than club colours render them liable to disqualification for that match, and that referees be requested to report any cases to the Union. The question of the late hour of commencement of matches was also discussed, and it was pointed out that under ifae rules a match must be commenced within 15 minutes after the advertised time, otherwise the game must be awarded to the team then on the groundl.

(New Members.—Attention was drawn to the fact that clubs had been playing members within the seven days' notice required by rule. Resolved—"That clubs be informed that it has come undetf the notice of the Union that this rule has been broken, and that any further infringement will be dealt with by the Union without protest, and the match awarded Jx> the opposing team.

Representative Matches.—The .secretaiy of the recently-revived Manawatu Rugby Union wrote asking that the home and home matches in vogue some years ago bo revived. Resolved)—" That the two matches be played, and that datets be fixed later."

The Hawke's Bay Union wrote, asking if Wanganui wouldl visit Napier this season. It wag decided to reply that this Union would pay the visit if possible. The Nelson Union wrote, asking what monetary assistance would be granted for a visit here. Some discussion took place, and it was resolved that this Union neither receives or grants monetaiy assistance for representative matches in future, and that the Nelson Rugby Union be notified." New Zealand Rugby Union.—The conditions of the competition for the Ranfurly cup were received, also a number of notices of motion for consideration at special general meetings of the New Zealand Union on sth and 19th June. It was decided that the delegates be instructed to support the sending to England of a New Zealand team, but that they oppose the amendment asking the English Union to relax the rules of professionalism. The delegates were also instructed to oppose the motion re classification of Unions, also a motion with regard to the centralising of Unions. It was also resolved that the delegates be instructed to support Mr. Goldie's motion amending rule 7 of the Ranfurly cup competition rules.

Fixtures.—lt was dfecided that the senior cup matches set down for 14th and 21st June be played on the first two Saturdays of the second round, and that the games on those days be played on 14th and 21st June, and also that! Wanganui Football Club should play College (cup match) on College ground next Saturday. After the transaction of other business the meeting adjourned.

The following will represent the Olid Boys in their match against T.Y.M.I, next Saturday on Cook's Gardens, at 1.30 p.m. : Murray, Montgomerie, Gibbons, Wilson, Williams, Bell, Dymock, Day, Scott, Dodgshun, McCaul, Pownall, Collins, and Craig (2); emergency, Johns.
