OPERA HOUSE

f'WHEK LONDON SLEEPS."

'The Sandford Dramatic Company scored ;a decided success on the occasion of their initial performance at the Opera House last evening, when, to a good house, they -staged the sensational and spectacular <lrama "When London Sleeps." The play, which runs through four acts, is blessed with a well-defined plot, the moral of which ia, of course, the triumph of virtue ever villainy. The play abounds in thrillIng incidents, and is at the same time endowed with humour of a good wholesome kind. The cast is extraordinarily long, and if it is conspicuous for one thing more than another, it is the entire absence of "{(ticks." Scenically the production was undoubtedly above the average, the great transformation scene in the third act, showing London by nighb and the heroine, escaping from the burning house, being equal to if not superior to anything yet given us by that prince of spectacular productions, Bland Holt. The scene was perfect in detail, and was certainly most realistic. In brief, the whole production was decidedly creditable in every respect, and the pleasure of the large audience was manifested at frequent intervals by outbursts of loud and prolonged applause. Pressure on our space precludes a more lengthy notice, but in conclusion we can recommend ail who appreciate a really interesting jplay, admirably staged, and with plenty of scenic attractions, to witness the play on tho occasion of its reproduction this evening. ________
