A wave, supposed to be of volcanic origin, swept the steamer Teutonic near the Newfoundland coast, injuring the.sailors who had taken refuge in the crow's nest.

At the inquest on the wreck of the steamer Rio de Janiero, the jury found thr.t Captain Ward, master of thp steamer, end Captain Jordar., pilot, were criminally negligent, and censured the Pacific Mail Company for employing a Chinese crew.
