Stanford's Dramatic Company, numbering 40 people, arrived here on Saturday afternoon by the express from Palmerston North, and commence a six nights' dramatic season at the Opera House this evening, when will be staged here for ■the first time the highly sensational drama "When London Sleeps." Westmacott; Professor lonesio, Mr J. P. O'Neil; Stephanio Mordicano, Mr Frank Harcburt; Queenie Carruthers, Miss Ida Gresham; Hilda Carrode, Miss Rosa. Conroy; Mrs Jonesio, Miss Roland Watts-Phillips; Carrie Jones, Miss Katie Towers ; Maudie De Frere, Miss Rose Hol--loway; Leilia., Miss Pearllie Hellmrich. The Wellington Evening Post, in its criticism of the production, said : "The many thrilling scenes were followed with interest, and in one act, where the villain is more than usually cold-blooded, the inr terjections from the pit wrere of a very uncomplimentary nature. The performance is a very even one, and some of the scenic effects are most realistic."
