As a yearling he took First Prize at the Timaru Show and Second at Christchurch ; as a 2-year-old First Prize at Timaru ; First Prize at Ellesmeve Show, 1894, beating five others, including Blue Gown ; Second at Christchurch to his sire, 1895 ; First and Special Rangiroa Show, 1896 ; also Second to his sire, with eight others in the ring, in 1897. ■ His sire was the Avell-known Orpheus, imported direct from the celebrated Oldenburgh Stud, Suwurden, near Rodenkirchen, Grand Dukedom of Oldenburgh, Germany. This Stud was successfully represented on the trotting tracks, at meetings he'.d recently in Germany, at which American, Franco-Prussian, Austrian, and other countries competed.
