RAETIHI NOTES.
. «. (From Our Own Correspondent.) RAETIHI, September 19. A farewell smoke concert was he'd ut Raetilu on Saturday night to bid good-bye to Mr F. Keen, who is leaving this district for Mangawokn. Mr A. Nathan was in the chair, and in a few well chosem words presented him with a silver-mounted traveling bag, as a small token of the regard in which ho is held in the town. Mr A. Dauphan has started an up-to-date bakery in Raetihi. He has built a large oven with stone foundations, and all the latest improyements for baking pastry ; also a bakehouse and' storeroom' "37 x 14, so ag to be able to store enough flour to do the winter's bread. Mr Dauphan showed me a sample of the bread that he turns out, and I can- safely say that it cannot be beaten in any town on the West Coast. Mr Dauphan is also turning out first-class confectionery, and Mi's Dauphan is providing a first-class refreshment-room, where the country ladies can get the much-needed cup of tea. There are two contracts let on the Main Trunk Line at Ohakune to fall the bush so as a burn may be got this season. Mr Keen's departure from the district creates a good opening for a good energetic shoemaker with a. small capital.
