UPPER WANGAEHU ROAD BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Upper Wangaehu Road Board was held at Mam-a---mahu on May sth, 1900. ° Present— Messrs Lilburn, Cranstoue, and Mannntgton.

.Chairman.— JMr Lilburn was re-elected Chairman for tho ensuing term. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed.

Deputation.- llr Simpson waited on the Board with reference to tbe Heao Bridge. Resolved, that the Clerk be instructed to write to the Wangamu County Council, asking for si reply to the Hoard's letter inquiring tho cause of the delay in construction of the Heao Bridge, and aiso to state that the Board will not accept any liability with regard to the fencing of the proposed road connecting the said bridge with Field's Track.

Tha surfaceman on the Main Road was instructed to fence tbe cliff at lower end of the "Silver Water Rend" paddock. Correspondence.— The following letters woe received from —

Tbo Postmaster-General, witb reference to the proposed telephone to Mdiigumahu, stating that it would be necessary that a guarantee of £28 po annum, paid in advance for 5 years, be given— The Chairman stated that be had several liberal promises of assistance, and that he had no doubt the necessary guarantee would be forthcoming. He thought that the Road Board might advance thc money in the first instance. The question being raised as to whether the exchange at Mangamahu would be connected with Wanganui, so that people there could be spoken with direct, or to Fordell, ahd thence to' Wanganui by the telegraph wire, ifc was decided to write for more iiitomation before taking further action, and. in tbe meantime enquiries could bc made a.s to what subscriptions could bo obtained.

From the Secttary of the Mangamahu Choral Society, asking for the use of the Hall for practices and concerts. — Received, that tbo request be agreed to on the conditions named.

From tho Clerk, Kaukatea Road Board, stating tbat if the Upper Wangaehu Road Board will open a track six feet wide, from the No. 2 Line Extension to the Rivorly Boundary, the Kaukatea Road Board will make a similar track though Hr Old's property to connect the No. 3 Line with itLetter held over for further consideration.
