MR ISITT'S MISSION.

' The Rev. L. M. Isitt lectured in the Oddfellows' Hall last night to a large and sympathetic audience. Mr Isitt's .subject, was "How Goes the Battle?" and he showed that, while it was no good prophesying ns to where or when the gre it 1 temperance reform would be carried at the 1 polls, of this there was no doubt whatever ' — earned it would be, sooner or .late)-. /: Every reform had been laughed afc'in its' 1 ji inception — look at the Corn laws, look at ') slavery ! And now where is the man who "< would even mention going back upon these 1 reforms? By apt illustrations, by "yarns" 1 told -in his own inimitable style, by .dry I sarcasm and irony, he carried his audience : to the desired conclusion that he wished to reach — that it is not how liquor is dis- 1 pensed, not where liquor is sold, nor to ; any great extent the quality of the liquor i dispensed to the buyers, but it is the liquor itself that commits the ravages the reformers complain of. 'The lecturer spoke for an hour and a quarter, and resumed his seat ■ amid a perfect *tonn of applause. At the conclusion uf the addiess questions anil opposition addresses were invited. One question concerning the attitude of the Lord i Jesus Christ on the Temperance question was satisfactorily answered, as were also somo remarks by a son of Erin who tried to poke fun at the parsons. Mr Isitt's subject this evening is one that ought to interest jour business men — "Prohibition i and local revenue." Questions 'and adverse speeches arc invited.
