OUR RAILWAY ACCOMONDATION.

, EXTENSION OF STATION YARD. Mr Gilbert Carson, M.H.R., forwards us the following information concerning the proposed re-arrangement and extension of the Wanganui Station yard, as supplied to him by Mr T. Ronayne, General Manager : It is proposed to re-ai'vange the existing yard and increase the accommodation, and the design^ will be such that future ad'litions can readily be made as demanded by the traffic requirements. A considerable amount of reclamation will be required. This will be carried out in line with the present wharf, the haLE-tide wall being about thi boundary. Tho station building will remain as at present, but considerable additions will be made to lhe platform, botli by widening and lengthening it. The present goods shed will be converted into a shipping and Customs shed, and a new one erected further down the yard. The cattle yards witl be shifted down stream several chains, but the exact position is not yet fixed. The approach to theso will be off Taupo Quay, some little distance below Churton Street. At the extreme South end of the yard the locomotive running shed will be erected to provide for stabling engines which are now kept at Aramoho. Coal and water facilities will also be provided. Provision will also be made for a new approach to the station; to improve the sharp curve' on the present line. It i.s not intended, however, to carry out this work in the meantime.
