WANGANUI COUNTY COUNCIL

The ordinary monthly meeting of tho above body was held yesterday, when there w«re present— Councillors A. Higgie (in the chair), W. T. Howie, J. E. Wilson, D. U. Poison, R. Neilson, A. M. Georgetti, E. E. Fletcher, «nd D. Boss. Minutes— The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. New County— A letter was received from the Rungitikei County Council in reference to the Northern ratepayers forming a new county. After considerable discussion it was agreed that the clerk write the Rangitikei County Council and ask for further information, and a sketch of the lands .in the Wanganui County which they suggest should be included in tlie new county. Correspondence — From Messrs Brass and others was received on which Councillor Ross reported that he had been in the. Raetihi District during the last month. He said that it is a practice of the person holding a slaughter license to kill cattle in the bush and that what the . Raetihi people desired was that cattle be killed on the premises for which licenses were granted, and further that Mr McDonnell had offered to allow stock to be killed on his farm byanyone to whom the Council may_ grant a license to slaughter. It was resolved that the clerk write to Messrs Brass and others for further information, and ask whether the Raetihi people would be satisfied if cattle were killed at Mr McDonnell's farm, and further to let the Council know who is slaughtering in their district because there are no licenses in- existence there, and further that this Council deem it well ( that Section 5 of "The Dairy IndustryAct, 1898" should be brought into opera' tion. Wangaehu Ferry— Councillor Fletcher reported that it was imperative that about a dozen yards of metal be laid on the approach to the Ferry. It was agreed that councillor Fletcher attend to it. Upokonga.ro Ferry— lt was agreed that Councillors Ross and Georgetti get the approach to the Upokongaro Ferry repaired. Accounts— Accounts amounting to £166 6s 9d were passed for payment. Long Acre Valley— lt was resolved that the water tables at the top end of the. liong Acre Valley Road be repaired, the; cost not to exceed £20. Tenders — it was resolved that tenders be called for the delivery of 200 yards of metal between the Railway Bridge and Nixon's Bridge, and hat Councillors Ross and Ueorgetti be a committee to open the same, also for the delivery of 900 yards of metal on the new formation of Dr. Grace's deviation, to close on Wednesday, 19th inst.
