When Mr. Taylor, M.H.R., was on a trip round the Southern Sounds, he was told that the men in charge of the track from Milford Sound to the Beech Huts were about to abandon, their work on account of there not being sufficient tourist traffic to give them employment as guides. Mr. Taylor approached the Government in regard to the matter, aud on Thursday (the Southern Standard s-ayx) he received word that a Government subsidy of £50 would be granted.
At a committee meeting of the Awuhuri Racing Club, held on Wednesday evening, Mr. Collingwood in the chair, some discussion took plaoe with regard to securing a permit from the Wanganui Jockey Clnb to hold a meeting on the 17lh March. Kvonlually it wa-s decided that Mr. O'Railly. in company with Mr. Saunders;, g" to XVnnganui on Monday next in order to get i.he approval nf the Metropolitan Club. In tho meantime, it was decided to advertise tho meeting in a small way iv the M-.uia-|v. atu Times and Feilding Star until per- , mission was obtained. The meeting then adjourned till Wednesday evening next.
