SOCIAL AT MANOAMAHU.
(Special To Chronicle.) A most successful social was held in the hall, on Friday Bth kut., to bid good-bye to Mr and Mrs Arthur El'is, who are leaving the district for Napier. Mr D. G. Poison took the chair, and in a neat little speech referred in eulogistic terms to the many good qualities of Mr and Mrn Ellis, and the loss that everyone would sustaiu through their departure. Messrs A. Higgio, Tark, Lilbuvn, Grant, and Kobinson, also sp&ke. lUr Ellis suitably replied, saying that he hoped that his absence would not lead to forgetfulncss, and that ho would meet tbom all again. A number of instrument!] and vocal Beleetions were contributed during the evening by the following ladies and gentlemen :—Duet, Misses Todd and Carnell; song, " The Postillion," Mr Oliver Taylor; songs, " Won't you buy my pretty flowers " and "Comin' thro\luo Kye," Misa Duff ; song, " The Lost Child,' 1 Mr H. J. Addenbrooke; songs, '• Asthore " and " Tho Milltr and the Maid " and " Loved Lenove," Misa Carnell; song, "Oh, sing to me the old Bcotch songs," Mr 1). Grant; comic song, "Down went tbo captain," Mr Arthur Taylor ; recitatioD, Mr Bnll ; pianoforte selection, Mis H. Addenbrooke; song, "Kobin Adair," Miss McAally; song, " Down tho R'ver," Miss :Hleu; comio soDg, " Chin Chin Chinatnan " (encored); song, " Mono," Miss Mary McDonald ; song, Mrs H. Addenbrooke. At tbe conclusion of the conctr't everyone sang " For ho is a jolly good fellow," and then supper was partaken of, alter which the ball was oleared for dancing, which was kept up (ill daylight, the music beiDg supplied by Mr Powell, Mrs Addenbrooke, Misses Barns, Carnell, Todd, and Whiteman.
