THE MEDICAL CONFERENCE.

(Per Press Association.) Wellington, April 2. The Post publishes fai-night a report of the proceedings of the Medical Conference at Napier. The Bunedin branch was not directly represented, but Dm. Chappie, of Wellington, and Moore, of Napier, were deputed to represent it. Dr. Chappie moved, " That this Association regrets the action of the branch in distributing to the public press of the colony a circular on the medical school of Dunedin. This motion was lost, and Dr. Chappie moved, '' That this Association entirely disagrees with the statement in the Wellington circular, and there is no evidence that the clinical material in Dunedin io inadequate for teaching purposes." This was lost as were three further motions, •viz. (Ist), "That this Association regrets the action of the Wellington branch in distributing the report commenting on the medical school at Dunedin :" (2nd) that this Association disagrees with the statement in the Wellington circular j" (3rd) " that this A ssociatinn regrret3 that the Wellington branch distributed ita report before submitting it to the Association." Dr. Mackenzie (Wellington) moved, "That the report of the Wellington branch be adopted as the report of the Association." Thiß was lost, the Auckland and Wellington delegates only voting for It. Dr. Cleghern (Nelson) had moved " That the Wellington branch was within its rights in distributing the circular, but the Association does not endorse its action in publishing ib." This was lost like the rest, but finally the motion by Dr. Cahill, '' That no one centre in New Zealand can supply sufficient material for clinical instructions," was carried, Wellington, Auckland, aud Napier voting for it, and Christchurch and Dunedin against; it. The question of the relations of Friendly Societies to the profession was considered, and a code of regulations to be binding on medical men of the colony was unanimously adopted. The new points in this code are that no member of a friendly society whose income is over ,£2OO a year can be placed on the medical list, and that there can be no contiact for mileage over three mile?, that is the medical officeis of the friendly societies cannot in future be compelled to travel over three miles to ■visit a patient under their lodge agreements.
