A meeting of the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute was held to-day, when consideration was given to the recomendations made at the recent conference of school inspectors, a number of amendments bein? suggested. Among the resolutions passed Were the following .- — Thai; arithmetic is a subject taking up too much of school time, and tho Institute would be sorry to see the addition of mensuration of solids to the syllabus." In the matter of geography— "This Institute thinks tihat the suggested changes are hardly of sufficient importance to justify a disturbance of the existing syllabus." "That this Institute heartily approves of the suggestion to make le3s than 250 attendances a case for exception." "That the protest of Dr. Anderson against taking per centages as an estimate of efficiency of a school, as proposed at the Conference of Inspectors, is heartily end»rsed."
