LAWN TENNIS.
On Saturday morning the Tennis Four of the Wellington branch of the Old Boys' Association of the Wanganui College played a match on Mrs Moore's Courts against the School Four, and after an interesting contest the visitors won by 25 fames The Old Boys were represented by M«6srs H, Parker, F. Holdsworth, A. Duncan, and S, Holdsworth, while the School team consisted of G. Marshall. D. Hewitt, B Fitzherbert, and H. Cooper. : In the Doubles Parker and Holdsworth beat Marshall and Hewitt rather easily, having more combination than the tchool boys. S. Holdsworth and Duncan also won their match against Fitzherbert and Cooper after losing the first set. The Singles projuced some very close matches, Parker^eat Marshall after a great struggle, while F. Holdßwerth lost the first set to Hewitt and then won the | next two. The match between Duncan and Fitzherbert was of abnormal length, one S6t consisting of no fewer than 24 games had been pkyed, and S. Holdsworth managed to beat Cooper in a very long match. The scores are as follows s— F. Holdsworth and H. Parker beat Marshall and Hewitt 6—2, 6—l. S. Holdsworth and Duncan beat B. Fitzherbert and H. Cooper 3—6, 6—l, 6—3. Parker beat Marshall 9—7, 6—2. F. Holdsworth beat Hewitt 4—6, 6—2, 6-2. S. Holdsworth beat Cooper 6-3, 6—B, 6-4. A. Duncan heaten by Fitzherbert 7—5, 11-13, 2-6. In the afternoon a match was playod between the Wellington and Waoganui branches of the Association, and resulted in a decided win for the Wellington Old Boys. Most of the matches were rather hollow affairs, the closest being the double between Holdsworth and Parker of the Wellington Branch and Jollie and Brabant of the Wanganui Branch, which was won by the former after two advantage sets had to be played, In the Singles S. Holdsworth played extremely well against R. Bayley, his volleying being greatly admired, while h:s drives were very well placed. A. Duncan beat H. Esam very easily, and Parker and F. Holdsworth best Jollie and Brabant respectively without much difficulty. Appended are the soores : — H. Parker and F. Holdsworth beat E. Jollie and F. Brabant 7- 5, 7 -fi. A. Duncan and S. Holdsworth beat A. Esam and li. Bayley 6—l, 6-4; Farker beat Jollie 6—2, 6—l. F. Holdnworth beat Brabant 6—4, 6—2. Duncan beat Esam 6 — l, 6—l. S. Holdsworth beat Bayley 4-6, 6—3, 6 — l. The Wellington Branch thus won by 78 games to 36. Mrs Moore entertained the teams at lunch most sumptuously, and a most enjoyable day was spent.
