[Per Press Association.] Sydnbt, March 24. Unfavourable weather was experienced for the opening day of tho A.J.C. Meeting. It Vent fine until the Hurdle can. didates had gone to the post, when the rain poured down, and continued for the rpmainder of the afternoon ; the attendance was fair. The Autumn Stakes brought together the finest lot of horses seen at Randwick for some time. The following are the results :— Hurdle Handicap, First Light 1 Kilmany ... 2 Tramp 3 Fourteen started. Whitefoot was made favourite, but fell at the third jump. First Light took up the running at the back of the course, and won easily. Time, 4min 4sec. Autumn Stakes. ■ Light Artillery (Gough) 1 , Marvel (Moore) 2 Loyalty (Ellis) 3 Other starters : The Admiral, Portsea, Nightingale, Jeweller, Camoola, Titan, Etraweenie, Patron, and The Possible. Betting : sto 2 against Light Artillery, 4 to 1 Fortsea, 5 to 1 others. A good start was effected, and Marvel was leading as they passed the stand, < with Etraweenie close up, The course was very greasy, and, after passing the Btand, Patron slipped and dislodged his rider. All along the back of the course Marvel held his own, with the favourite and Loyalty in good positions. Approaching the sheda Light Artillery moved up a little, but Marvel led into the straight. The Sailor Prince (Moore) 1 Carnage (Gough) 2 Trenchant (Gardner) .. ... ... 3 Other starter . The Trier. Betting: 3 to 1 on Carnage, 4 to 1 against the others. Carnoge led past the *tand, w'th Trenchant, Tho Trier, and The Sailor Prince following, and this order was maintained (0 the back of the course, where The Trier, in the interests of Carnage, began to force the pace. Nearing the sheds Jthe field closed up, and, as the horses were turned for home, Carnage had again assumed command, with Trenchant next. The Sailor Prince held a good position on the inside, and; coming on full of running, challenged Carnage at the distance post. Gough drew his whip to Carnage, but The Sailor Prince had all the best of the struggle, eventually winning by two lengths. Time, 3rain 874 sec. Doncasteb Handicap. Donizetti, 7st 91b (John Gough) ... 1 Projectile, 7st 111 b (Huxley) 2 Lady 'frepton, 7at 10lb (Warder) ... 3 Twenty-three started. Loyalty was scratched. Betting: 6 to 1 against Gerard and Steadfast, 12 to 1 others. After some trouble, the field was despatched to an excellent start, Steadfast showing momentarily in front, but Lady Trenton soon closed with him. On entering the straight Steadfast was again in front, but before the distance post was reached he fell back beaten, and Donizetti and Projectile took up the running. The former lasted longest) and at the finish won rather easily; Steadfast fourth, Oxide fifth, and Launceston nearly iaet. Time, lmin 46soc.
