THE BRINK TRAFFIC.

TO THE EDITOK. Sir,— lt is a common-place with those who are contending against the drink traffic that nine. tenths of the evils under which society labours are to be attributed to it- They base their opposition to the traffic on the fearful evils which it ia the prolific cause of, and withcombned sense 3nd philanthropy they plead that, in order to the cessation of the evils, the traflis shall no longer be allowed to exist. And by no counter-reasoning have their argument be met. Certainly, there is only too abundant evidence of the inevitable connection between the drink traffic and miseries of every sort. We have evidence in the stabbing the othor day of certain poilce by the old man Neary. Into the particulars of that mutter I shall not enter. One thing only needs to be noticed: Neary was drunk -mad with drink. His crime was the direct result of the condition he was in, and to drink is it owing that at this very moment a respected police officer is lying in a precarious state, whilst tho poor old druakard is awaiting committal on the charge of an attempt to murder, possibly of a worse. Drink has dono it all. I ask the unreflecting to observe and to think upon the fact. I ask thorn to notice also that in the Neary affray wa have just a sample instance of what is ever coming so horribly, so plentifully, from the drink traffic ? One wonders, not that there are prohibitionists, but that there are etill so many who lend to the trafiic their support. With thanks for your kindnsss, — Yours, &c, Jambs Tubadweli,.
