BOROUGH COUNCIL.
A c the special meeting of the Council Indt night, there were present — The Mayor (Mr F.E. Jackson), in tre chair, and Councillors Parßons, Perrett, Carson, Clp.pham, Liffiton, and Hogg. Apologies for absence were received from Councillors Bassett, Spurdle, and Mansoc, nil of whom W6re absent from town. Sanitary Inspector.— Slessrs Hawke, Johns, and Copoland, tha selected applicants for thisjpost were present, and intoryiewed the Council in turn, after which their respective merits wore discussed, and it wbb resolved to appoint Mr T. M. Copeland to the otlbo, hie dutios to commence on the Ist of March. The Loan.— The Loan Schedule was considered in Committee, and on the Council resuming it was ro3olved, that the amount to bo borrowed bo £55,000, £43,000 to pay off existing loans, and to be allocated as follows:— Hood and street construction, X3000; drainage, .£4000; waterworks and baths, ,£4500; and expenses of floating loan, ,£SOO. The security to be offered to be a special rate of two elrllings in tho pound, of which one shilling and sixponce will be collected, thus making, with the one shilling general rate, a total rate of two shillings and sixpenco in the pound, as at present. The loan to be repayable in 20 years, and to carry a sinking fund of one-balf per cent.
