[Br Electric Telegraph— CorYßiOHT.] (Per Press Association.) Sydney, January 19. So littlo excitement did the debate cause that attention was called to the lack of a quorum. At ten o'clock Mr. Burton advocated thosinkiDgof the fiscal question, to onr. able members of both sides of the Honae* to devote attention to necessary legislation and tbe accomplishment of a national Australian policy. Mr, Cook, a labour loader, said the Government had rendocod it impossible for any man with a souse of right to allow it to do legislative work of any kind, and the sooner the members were Bent to tho country tlio better. Mr. McMillan declared that there was only ono plain issue, and that an outrage had been perpetrated on tho Constitution. Shortly before two tho division was takou, both parties being ansious to decide the matter without loss of time, and Mr. llcod'a amondment was negatived by a majority of one vote, the numbers being 67 against 66, Tho House theu adjourned until Tuesday. Mr Copolaud apologised to the House for his conduct of the preceding evening.
