At tho Polico Court to-day a man uamod Smith, alias Miller, alias Jackson, was brought up on a charge of dofrauding two well-known firms in Auckland, McArthur and Co,, and Trenthworth and Co. Inspector Tnomson stated that the uccusad aDd his two brothers arrivod iu Auckland from Russia with a limited capital. Tboy managed to got credit for a largo quantity of goods. Aftor a time their creditors pressed for settlement., and iu replv they said they had let the goods out to hawkers, who had not sent in all tho money. Eventually the iirms instituted inquiries, and found that accused had beon perpetrating a swindle afcer tho manner of the "long firm" swindle.
