THEI FLAX INDUSTRY.

Concessions made by the Wellington "Harbour Board. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, July 20. Messrs R. Gardiner, Chairman of the Flaxmillers Association, and J. Symonds, of Foxton, also a member of that body, waited upon the Harbour Board this afternoon with reference to the reduction of charges on hemp sent away from Wellington. Mr Gardiner urged that the charges for re-opening bale 3, dumping, repacking, and storing flax should be reduced in order that millers might be able to make the industry pay. The Board decided to reduce the charges for dumping from Is 8d to Is 6d, for repacking from Is 9d to Is 7d, and for st iring from 3d per bale for the first two weeks and 2d per bale for tho subsequent weeks to the uniform charge of 2d per bale per week. From a calculation made by the Secretary of the liiubour Board on last year's hemp trad° this is a conoession by the Board of JJ527.
