The new Austral-Canndian lino of steamships will call at Victoria, British Columbia, going and coming. It was intended at first to give that port the go-by. The magnificent Villa Marie Convent at Notre Dame de Grace, two miles north nf Montreal, the largest establishment of its kind in America, was almost totslly destroyed by fire on June 7. The total losa will amount to more than 1,000,000 dol. with an insurance of 100,000dol. The Caucasian fisherman of British Columbia are holding meetings with a view to influence the withholding of fishing HceoEes from Japanese and Chinese. Tho whites are being crowded to the by these people. Scarcely a white fisherman is being eirployed by canners.
