The first match between a representative team of Queensland and the New Zealand Rugby Union team was played to-day and resulted in a win for the Maorilanders by 12 points to 3. The following were the teams : — Queensland.— Full-back, Paul; threequarters, Austin, F. O'Eourke, and McCowan ; halves, Allman, C. O'Eourke, and Warbrick; forwards, Graham (2), Patterson, Taldwin, Counsell, Lyonß, Luya and Munro. .New Zealand. — Full-back, Wilson ; three-quarters, Jervis Wynyard, and Harper; halves, Butland and Bayly; forwards, D'Arcy, McKenzie, Ellison, Cockroft, Lambie, Stuart, Murray, Pringle and Speight. As will be seen, Queensland played three halves and eight forwards, while the visitors had as usual two halves and nine forwards. FIRST SPELL. Graham kicked off. and after a return by a back three-quarter the ball went into touch. After give and take piny the ball was worked down to the local quarters, when McKensie broke away from the line out, and, with a very fine dribble, crossed the line and scored f*r the Hew Zealanders. Wilson was entrusted with the kick, but he failed to convert. On the game resuming, Bayly returned the ball to Austin, who sent it back to Ellison, and the latter marked. The leather was placed for Wilson, but he once more failed to justify the confidence reposed in him, A few minutes later on Ellison again marked, and this time Wilson proved himself equal to the occasion by sending the ball over the bar almost from the half-distance. Ellison was playing a great game, and time after time broke through the opposing forwards. After the goal was scored, he again gave the local men a taste of his quality by breaking through from the line-out and making a great run, but was stopped by Allman when within an ace of scoring. The local men, headed by Patterson, Luys, and Graham, made a brilliant rush dowu the field, but Cockroft, who was playing a fine gune, brought their advance to an abrupt finish. The local forwards gettine behind the leather again swept down the fie'd, and it was their bard work that kept the visitors from increasing the scce. The Zealanders, however, were not to bs denied, and in a fast rush, in which Wynyard, Butland, Ellison, Cockroft, and Jervis were to the fore, Butlind got possession and whipped the Vail auro3s to Bayly but unfortunately the latter lost a chance of scoring by fumbling. Lyon3 and Counsell here got on a dribbling rush, but Butland snapped up the ball, and, after a good run, banded it over to Wynyard, who was collarded by Paul, though had he paised to Jervis, the latter had an almoit certain try. By the efforts of Allman and O'Bourke tho scene of play was gradually removed in neutral territory, when Butland, who was a host in himself, again slipped the opposing forwards, and gave Wynyard a chines to score. Tho latter was nok slow to take advantage of the opportunity, and with a dods»y run evaded the backs and touched down. Wilson again failed at the kick at goal. Time for the first spell was then called without further siiore. SECOND SPELL. Ellison began the second spell. Warbrick returned the kick, and he kept up the rush, which Tas stopr ed by Pringle and D'Aicy. The home team ware now playing their utmost to retrieve thair lost laurels, but their brilliant ru3hes were, time after time, upsfct by the quick passing of their opponents. Wilson short!} after obtained a mark, and forced Queensland down with a long pot at goal. On resuming, Taldwin made a fine dash up the field, but, after covering a lot of ground, the advantage was neutralised by Lambie, who wns fbowinp up prominently amongst the visiting forwards. Counsell, however, again placed the visitor's line in danger, but Harper stopped him in the twenty-five. Warbrick again attempts 1 to cross the line, h\\ L . Jervis stopped him. The visitors, headed by Cockroft, McKenzie, Lambie, and Pringle, then dribbled down tho Sold, and the latter got over, but was thrown l>ack into the field of play. A few minutes later Bayly marked, and Ellison placed a nice goal. The Queenslanders followed up the kick off, and Warbrick, with a good run crjssed the visitor's line, but Paul made a poor attempt at goal, On tho bill being brought into play the whites made a grand rush, which Wynyard stopped, and from a free kick to Queensland Pringle marked. The ball was placed for Ellison, who made an excellent attempt at goal. Queensland being forced. The New Zealanders were now giving the local team a livply time of it, and Butland passing to Wynyard tho latter potted at goal, and missing it, the local men wore again forced down.
