U.B.C. ANNUAL BALL.
The annual ball of the Union Boat Club was given in the Fire Brigade Hall last night. The Hall had been carefully decorated for the purpose, and the pretty dressings of the walls and windows did equal justice to the taste and the energy of the members of the Committee. The Fire Brigade Hall is vory justly a favourite with dancers. When it is neatly decorated and a little trouble bestowed upon tbo floor it makes by far the best dancing room procurable in Wanganui. The members of tho Union Bjat Club thoroughly understand the preparation of a ballroom, and their last efforts have, like those of former occasions, been crowned with' success. Tho walls were draped with the colours of the Club (light blue), and an arrangement of oars ovor the windows ivas veij appropriate and effective. Tho dances, the music for which was ably supplied by Messrs Armstrong, Oower, and Richardson, were 26 in number, including two extras. The duties of M.C. were confided to Messrs Bodwell and W. Pawson, in whose hands they wore certain to receive proper care and attention. Between 140 and 150 tickets wore presented at tho door, which included a fair number of ladies' tickets. The dresses of the ladies were exceedingly handsome, and the intermingling of tho many gay colours worn provided an oxtromoly pretty and effoctivo sight. In Mr Dustin's hands the catering left nothiug to be desired, ill kind 3of confectionery, as well •■! plainer food, and an abuudanco of fruit wrre obtainable and the arrangements made for dispensing thorn were perfect. Naturally such a lengthy programme was not exhausted until far on in t heraorning, but despit i tbe penalty or weary limbs the dancers loft the scene of pleasure with reluciance, carrying with them sweet memorios of the Union Ball of 1892.
