THE PROHIBITION QUESTION
AN IMP CT DENT FORGERY. [Pee United Press Association.] Christ-church, August 12. The Prohibitionist newspaper has accused liquor traffic sjmpathisers of forging a letter in the name of the Mayor of Chri3tchurch. The letter, which appeared in the Taraunki Herald, contained the resolution of a public meeting of sympathisers with the Sydenham hotelkeepers whose licenses were refused it the laßt meeting of the Committee, and was signed " Win. Prudhoe, Mayor of Christ church." The Prohibitionist reprints a letter sent by the Mayor to the Taranaki Herald, saying that the former letter was a forgery, and it is a gross impertinonee foranyono to endeavour to make it appear that he is a supporter of publicans, as in his official capacity it is not bis business to espouse either side. ■
