■ SUICIDE OF A WEALTY BESIDENT i [Per United Press Association.] Invercarqill, March 20. '< An incjuost on Charles Freeman, who i hanged himself this morniug, disclosed that he had beon depressed in spirits for somo time past, and that ho had been speculating without immodiato prospects jof auccoss. lie was also oivner of conJ sidorablo house property here, and tho I ronts of those had fallen from ,£2-3 to £1 ; per wnek. 110 was still, howovor, a wealthy mno, and had no family. Ho [ played c;irds with his wife and adopted j daughter till bed time last night, and seemed more choerful than usual. Mr Freeman was a. native of Birmingham, and had boon a resident in tho district J for 27 years, and was of a particularly ! cheerful and jolly disposition. A verdict ; of suicide, while temporarily insane, was returned. j Tho Irish athletic sports to-day was remarkably successful. Tho competition in bush work — cross-cutting and chopping — excited keon interest. Tho first rollor-mill in Southland has just been started. Tho plant is suppliod by Messrs Eobinson and Sons (Limited), Kockdole, for Messrs Fleming and Gilkinson, and is 7-ton por dioiu.
