AUCKLAND.
may o. The Rimutaka left for London to-day well freighted and crowded with passengers. She takos a quantity of frozen meat. Tha Taupo went into dook to-day. The damage ia comparatively trifling, two plates on the port side being bulged, but they can be easily repaired. It is not known whether they intend to have the repairs made here or at Duuedin, but the vessel is considered absolutely safe for sea-going purposes in her pr€sent state. The field foroe of the Constabulary (Waikato) are to he transferred to Auckland to do duty at the North Head batteries. Through some misunderstanding no cool chamber was built on the Eimutaka for the Auoklaud fruifc exhibits for the Colonial Exhibition, as promised, but tha exhibits are placed amongst ordinary cargo in the hold. The shippers of fruit; are indignant after their trouble and expense, and feel certain that the exhibits will reach London ruined.
