February 16. The Botorua left Manakau for southern ports with the following passengers :— Darrel's troupe, Messrs Perm, Hart, J. Meeson, 3. Outhberfc, Malcolm, Glover, Beys. Pafcerson, Kempthorne, Moncur, Dawson, Hon. J. B. Acland, Messrs Robb, Mendelson, Turnbull, Salmon, Brown, Mules, Stock, Bay, Mesdamea Brookes, Hooker, Puckey, Fry, Bobs, Q-ordon and two children, Honour, Kempthorne, Misses Jones, Simpson, and two steerage. The Police Oourt has been occupied for two days in hearing; the case for the prosecution against Mary Ann Smith, a boardinghouse-keeper, and Eobert Henry Keenan, an expressman, for robbing Fred. Smallwood, a settler of Hokianga, of £Qo. The case is peculiar, as the male prisoner endeavoured first to marry his'nieoe to Smallwood and then the female prisoner, who it is alleged committed the robbery on the morning the nuptials were to be per-f formed. A cottage in N»pier*street was burned down this morning. It was owned and occupied by Mr W. H. Fort, and the house, furniture, &0,, were insured in the Colonial office for £200, the loss being £150 above the insurance. The adjourned annual meeting of the Union Sash and Door Company was a very animated one indeed. A special oomraittee of shareholders in their report found that excessive valuas tion of certain properties had been made. In the discussion the directors were severely criticise 1 by several share* holders, and finally the special report and balance-sheet were adopted. The meeting then adjourned for a month, when certain proposals for investigation by a committee will be considered. The Cricket Association considered a letter from the Melbourne Cricket Club, re the visit of the English Eleven nest seaßon. It was decided to play them a two or three days' mafcoh, the visiting team taking the gross receipts, less expenses and £100 for ground and the local team's expenses.
