INTERSTING TO SAVINGS' BANK DEPOSITORS.

(PER UNITED PKESS ASSOCIATION.) Wellington, Feb. 14. A. case of some interest to depositors in Savings Banks was heard at the Magistrate'^ Court yesterday. The case was one brought by a depositor in the. Post Office Savings Bank, named William Nicholson, against the depart" nient for the recovery of a sum of .£l4, being the amount of the balanoe whioh stood to his credit in the Savings Bank. Mr Nicholson, the plaintiff, when he originally made his deposit was handed a depositor's book, which book was subsequently stolen or lost, and on the day following the ioo3 or theft the book was presented at the Savings Bank by a person who forged Air Nicholson's ! name to the receipt and obtained the balanoe standing to the aocount of the depositor Nicholson, £14. Under these ciroumstanoes plaintiff now sought to make the department responsible for the money. The defence relied upon regulation 34 of the Post Office Savings Bank, which provides that if any person shall obtain by any maans any moneys belonging to any depositors, the postmaster shall not be held responsible for the amount. The Magistrate reserved judgment,. ;
