TENDERS Wanted for Formation on the Hunterville and Murimotu Roads (Upokongaro Valley), olosing at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, 17th instant, at the Council Offioe. The lowest or any tender not neoessarily accepted. BOLAND GABBETT, Oounty Engineer. TO THE ELECTORS OF THE WAITOTARA DISTRICT. GENTLEMEN,— I beg to announce myself a Candidate for the representation of your distriot at the General Election whioh is understood to be at band. I am in favour of a speedy completion of those pubUc works already begun and suoh others as are necessary for opening up the country* The views of the leading members of the former Ministry, now in opposition, to the effect that the further progress of the North Island Trunk Railway should be suspended i until native territory on both sides can be purchased, appear to me fraught with the utmost danger to the best interests of the Colony. To allow such views to prevail would practically be to abandon the undertaking. Under the present Native administration, which marks a diatmct advance in bringing about a renewed feeling of friendliness with • the Maoris, the acquisition of the land, already proclaimed beyond the reaoh o speculation, may aa confidently be reokoned upon aa if already under oontraot of sale. The completion of the railway system, the settlement of the land, and the necessary intercommunication by roada, are worka I wbich promise a return more than sufficient to justify a vigorous effort in further colonization, more especially at a time when ' public loans can be floated on the moet favourable termß. Thia means, instead of raising a million'a year indefinitely, that the Colony should arrange to borrow sufficient within a short period to give effeot to such a policy. Among other reforms, a more equitable distribution of the burdens of taxation Bhould not longer be deferred. Further retrenchment in the Publio Service should aleo be resolutely followed up. As the time for the election draws nearer the opportunities that are usual of meeting eleotors in publio will be more appropriate than the limits of this address for the discussion of many other subjeots proper for consideration in the choice of a representa* tiv». Referring only generally for the present to such matter*, I would, if elected, be found supporting a polioy of progress, while giving my best attention to the special requirements of the distriot. I may be pardoned for referring in a few words to your present member. It is to be desired on every ground that Mr Bryce may be able to be present at the election. His absence would be embarrassing, and could be of no Bervice to others in the field. For my part I hope he may coon return, having successfully completed the business which haß called bim away. I have the honour to be, | Gentlemen, Your Obedient Servant, GEORGE HUTCHISON. February 8, 1886. TO THE ELECTORS OF WAITOTARA, TN the event of a Dissolution of the House of Assembly it is notified for the information of the Electorate that MR BRYOE will contest the seat. J. R.
