SHOCKING CRUELTY TO A HORSE.
(per united press association.) Nelson, February 10. A charge of shocking cruelty to a horse was heard at the Brightwater court tosday. William Harris and David Ourrin were charged with oruelty beating^ and illtreating a horse by kicking it and beating it aud pulling off a portion of its tongue, thereby causing it such torture and agony that it became necessary to destroy the animal. Harris pleaded guilty, Ourrin being defended. Harris was sentenced to one month's imprisonment with hard labour, Currin being fined £5 and costs. The horse refusing to move, and kicking, the defendants whipped and beat the horse, ultimately oatching hold of its tongue, some five inches of which oaiae away. Thoy afterwards took the ! horse away and shot if., and stated in court that they had been drinking and knew knotting of what occurred.
