The Eoman Catholic Church of St. Mary's and St. James Presbyterian Ohuroh, at Newtown were both broken into between Saturday and this morning Nothing of any value was found in either church. It is -understood that the Governmont have purchased the right to manufacture the J'ardme torpedo in this colony. Mr Jardine is now making arrangements for submitting the invention to the Australian Governments, and to the Admiral of the Australian Squadron. NEW PLYMOUTH. August 31. The Taranaki Herald's Opunake cor- ! respondent has just wired that Forbes I and Sanders' brewery, Opunake, was | totally destroyed by fire at 3 o'clock this morning. The building was owned ' by 'Fabian Bros., Oai'te'rfcon," Wairavapa, and was insured for i£22§, Forbes and Sanders' plant and stock was insured for JE4OO in the New Zealand office, Nothjng whatever was saved.
