BENEVOLENT SOCIETY MEETING.
TO THE EDITOB. Silt, — Allow me to contradict a statement made by Mr Liffiton at the yesterday's meeting of the Wanganui Benevolent Society. It is quite hara enough to be unfortunate, without being made out a man who spends his money in drink. I cannot understand what charitable intention Mr L. had in bringing before the public a inistatement of bis man, especially as if true or untrue it would not tend to improve my present circumstances. But I most certainly deny having asked Mr L.'s man to fetch some drink: some ginger beer which had been left behind in the shop was all ■we had to keep out the dust. If I bad known that my acceptance of Mr Liffiton's offer would have given the latter gentleman the right to bring before the public misstatements, I certainly would uot have availed myself of it, especially as his 4s for a big job was little money and plenty of charity. By inserting the above you will greatly oblige. — Yours, &c, / '•j&^vv-^fe-- W. Keisenberq. . Wiftgariui, June^S.-ISSS. <■»._ »•
